My times are in Your hand; why should I doubt or fear? My Father's hand will never cause His child a needless tear.
Psalm 31 was most likely written when David was running from Saul. He was pleading with God to “deliver [him] speedily”, yet he acknowledged mercy shown in his own life and was “glad and rejoiced”. This was a prayer of complaint but also of praise. In verse 15, he says, “My times are in thy hands” - He acknowledges to God that He knows his very beginning to end; God knows the exact moment of deliverance for David, and He knows that God will keep His hand upon him as long as he walks the path of righteousness.
We can often feel like we are being chased by our past sins, our thoughts, even the present evil of this world. Yet, we can lean on the Great Deliverer. Our way of thinking is not in line with God’s divine and sovereign plans for our lives (Proverbs 3:5-6). His Word says that there is a season for everything, for every matter under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1) and later in that chapter, it says that God has made everything beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). He wants us to draw closer to Him in times of waiting, even during that time He is still good (Lamentations 3:25-26).
Trusting God that our life - every single day - has been accounted for. It has been planned skilfully and masterly, just like our being, all to glorify God. In the joyful times, they are used to glorify and give glory to God. In the distressing times, they are used to glorify God even when it’s difficult. Our times our in the Master’s hands, the very Creator. The Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. The Lord is not slow to fulfil His promises (2 Peter 3:9), so hold tight to His ways and His timings, for they are perfect.
